iPhone SOS: What Does It Mean and How Does It Work?

Ever noticed the 'SOS' option on your iPhone? It's more than just a three-letter abbreviation – it's a potentially life-saving feature. So, what does SOS mean on iPhone? Simply put, it's an emergency calling function that allows you to quickly contact emergency services.

Activating SOS on your iPhone depends on your model. Typically, it involves rapidly pressing the side button (and one of the volume buttons on newer models) multiple times. This will trigger a countdown and then automatically dial emergency services. You can also choose to contact your emergency contacts.

What's really clever is that after the call ends, your iPhone can send your emergency contacts a text message with your current location, and will continue to update them if your location changes. Knowing how to use SOS mode is crucial. Practice activating it (without completing the call!) to familiarize yourself. It could make all the difference in an emergency.
