All Aboard! Exploring the Different Types and Safety Features of School Buses

The iconic yellow school bus: a symbol of education and childhood! But did you know there's more than one type? School buses come in various sizes, from the smaller Type A, often built on cutaway van chassis, to the larger, traditional Type C and D buses you see on longer routes. Type B buses, less common, are built on a van or truck chassis with a body section mounted directly on it.

Beyond the different types, safety is paramount. School buses are designed with numerous features to protect our precious cargo. These include flashing red lights, stop-arm signals, reinforced construction to withstand crashes, and high-backed seats with energy-absorbing padding. Many new buses are also equipped with cameras for added security and accountability. School bus drivers undergo rigorous training to ensure the safe transport of students, making the school bus consistently one of the safest modes of transportation available.
