Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes swings into theaters, promising a fresh chapter in the beloved franchise. Set generations after Caesar's reign, the film introduces us to Noa, a young ape whose peaceful clan is shattered by a tyrannical ape leader named Proximus Caesar, who distorts Caesar's teachings to justify his own power.
The visuals are stunning, showcasing a world reclaimed by nature, and the ape performances remain incredibly convincing. Owen Teague as Noa delivers a compelling performance, and Kevin Durand's Proximus Caesar is a genuinely menacing villain. However, the pacing feels uneven at times, and the human characters, while integral to the plot, lack the depth and emotional resonance of their ape counterparts.
Kingdom ultimately sets the stage for an exciting new era. While it may not reach the heights of its predecessors, it's a solid entry that leaves you eager to see where this ape dynasty goes next. A worthy addition to the Planet of the Apes saga, even with a few vine-swinging stumbles.
