Mac's Secret Handshake: How to Force Quit (aka Control Alt Delete) on Your Mac

Coming from a Windows background and suddenly staring at a frozen Mac app? Your fingers might automatically twitch to hit Control + Alt + Delete. But macOS doesn't use that exact shortcut. Don't panic! Mac has its own, equally effective way to force quit unresponsive applications.

The easiest method? **Option + Command + Escape (Esc).** Press these three keys simultaneously, and the 'Force Quit Applications' window will pop up, displaying a list of running apps. Simply select the frozen application and click 'Force Quit'.

Another option is the **Apple Menu Method**. Click the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen, then select 'Force Quit...' from the dropdown menu. This also opens the 'Force Quit Applications' window.

Finally, if you want to force quit a specific app directly, **right-click (or Control-click) the app's icon in the Dock.** If the app is unresponsive, you'll see a 'Force Quit' option in the menu.

So, while you won't find a traditional Control + Alt + Delete key combination on your Mac, these methods achieve the same result: quickly and efficiently closing frozen applications, keeping your Mac running smoothly.
